Bruce and Barbara Burnham - Breeding Brangus cattle for 50 years

Barbara & Bruce Burnham
Life Members of the Australian Brangus Cattle Association

BIMBADEEN BEGINNINGS:

In 1956 at the tender age of just 17, Bruce Burnham made what seemed like a revolutionary decision. The teenager was running the family's Eidsvold cattle property with his Mother (Jean Burnham) and in an effort to improve yields and decrease disease, he chose to combine the best of Angus & Brahman traits.   The experiment proved successful and the nucleus of the Bimbadeen herd was born.

In November 1961, Bruce and eight other cattlemen met in Rockhampton to form the Australian Brangus Cattle Association.   As the youngest cattleman there, he took the final allocation for a foundation stud.   Stud Number 9 was registered under Bimbadeen, the Aboriginal version of his family's original property name (Fairview).

Since then, Bruce and wife Barbara and their family have proudly provided quality Brangus cattle to Australian producers.   For over 50 years Bimbadeen (Q) has produced stud & commercial cattle.   The stud has ridden the highs & lows of the industry and survived droughts (and the occasional flood!).   As each industry breakthrough has occured the Bimbadeen team has assessed and moved with the times.   It has incorporated EBV & Genestar assessments to reinforce the stud's direction.

Bruce's team now includes extended family, with Grant & Carly Burnham and daughter Amanda & Mark Salisbury assisting in continuing Bimbadeen (Q)'s quality evolution, with daughter Sophie Burnham also providing occasional behind the scenes support (including the design of this site!).

Today, Bimbadeen (Q) is the only remaining Australian Brangus foundation stud.   Still standing with two exciting weapons: experience and energy.   As relevant to the cattle producer today as we were 52 years ago.

Stud No. 9 - still going strong.

Bimbadeen (Q) Brangus - proudly supplying sires and females to stud & commercial breeders, new & established, small & large.
